The other day after arriving in Ballina (sydney flight) we stayed at our first hostel ever. It was a dorm-style setting; two bunk-beds per room. Ended up sharing the room with two German girls. I've never stayed in a US sorority house but I'm sure it's similar. The girls went out for the night (to bryon bay I imagine), and came back at 5 in the morning. I woke to them talking loud German and stripping down to their knickers. That's right, I guess they don't do pj's.
The next day we caught a city bus that took us to Byron Bay. It's full of little shops, cafe's and hostels. Since we had all of our packs with us, we vegged on the beach until Coach Brendon (my triathlon coach) came and picked us up. I must say, the sun is really strong down here, I'm already browning nicely from that one afternoon.
So since yesterday we've been staying with the Downey family (Brendon, Chelsea, and their two cute little girls Meg & Liv). Been beautiful here in Cabarita beach (it's 30 min north of byron bay). Went to one of the surf spots today, did a little boogie boarding and body surfing. Got thrashed around as usual. Still haven't tried surfing (the real deal) yet...maybe in surfer's paradise. Speaking of which, we are headed there tomorrow. Should be fun!
