Day started off with shopping at the HUGE Victoria Market square. It was 2 blocks in size. One block had all the food stuff (veggies, fruits, food courts, delis, ect). The other block had everything from clothing to paintings (kinda like a flea market). I ended up buying a small Australian aboriginal painting from the market. Apparently these paintings tell stories, but I've made up my own story for the one I bought. It's about Dude and crush (pink turtles) riding the EAC (East australian current) and me watching them as I scuba dive :).
After the market I made my way into the heart of the city. Went and checked out all sorts of shops. Made a stop at the info center (to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything). Asked the people at the ticketek about tickets to the Australian Open (I really wanted to watch a game with Serena Williams). They said they were all sold out, so I went downstairs and looked around at Melbourne brochures. After a bit I came back upstairs and one of the ticket people asked if I wanted to go to the matches for the morning session that day. She said that one had just become available and asked if I wanted it. YAY! I got to go to the Rod Laver Arena and watch the exciting match between Mario Anseic vs Andy Roddick (who served at 225 km/hr) and after watched the Serena Williams (served harder than Mario) vs Jelena Jankovic match. Really cool! If you watch any of the games on tv, you'll see the MELBOURNE writing on the court. I was sitting straight up from the side of the big M. It was awesome. And during Serena's game I even moved down into the lower bowl (closer view). What a sweet day!
